About Bobby
Bobby Powell is an Enrolled Agent with more than a decade of experience in tax and accounting, specializing in tax debt relief, tax planning, and advisory. He founded B. Powell & Associates on a simple belief: tax problems feel bigger when you face them alone.
Most people who call about an IRS problem have been carrying it for a while. They've stacked unopened letters on a counter, lost sleep over a levy, or felt embarrassed about years that never got filed. Bobby's job is to take that weight off: get the facts on the table, deal directly with the IRS and state agencies, and reach a resolution built around what each client can actually pay. Once the debt is behind them, he helps clients plan ahead so it stays that way.
He works with individuals and families, self-employed professionals, and privately held businesses across the country. Because Enrolled Agents are licensed federally, Bobby can represent taxpayers before the IRS in every state, and the work happens by phone, video, and secure document upload.

What "Enrolled Agent" means
The Enrolled Agent credential is the highest credential the IRS awards. Enrolled Agents are licensed by the IRS itself, and they have unlimited practice rights: they can represent any taxpayer, on any tax matter, before any IRS office, including collections, audits, and appeals.
To become an Enrolled Agent, a candidate must either pass a comprehensive three-part IRS examination covering individual taxation, business taxation, and representation, practice, and procedures, or qualify through qualifying experience as a former IRS employee. Enrolled Agents must also:
- Pass a background check, including a review of their own tax compliance
- Complete continuing education, generally 72 hours every three years, including ethics
- Follow the IRS's rules of practice (Treasury Department Circular 230), which govern how they represent clients
Unlike many credentials in the tax world, the Enrolled Agent credential is focused entirely on taxation. For a client with an IRS collection problem, that matters. Representation work like negotiating installment agreements, preparing offers in compromise, requesting levy releases, and requesting Collection Due Process hearings is exactly what EAs are licensed to do.
What representation means in practice: once you sign Form 2848, a power of attorney, Bobby can speak with the IRS on your behalf, receive copies of your IRS notices, pull your transcripts, and negotiate for you. In most cases, you don't have to talk to the IRS at all.
How Bobby works
You talk to the person doing the work. Many tax relief companies are built around salespeople who quote a fee before anyone has looked at your IRS records. At B. Powell & Associates, your consultation is with Bobby, and he's the one who handles your case.
Honest answers come first. Bobby will tell you which options you're likely to qualify for, and which you aren't, before you pay for anything. If an offer in compromise isn't realistic for you, he'll say so and explain what is.
Flat fees, quoted upfront. You'll know the cost before you commit. No hourly billing surprises.
Federal and state together. Many clients owe both the IRS and a state revenue department. Bobby handles both, so one agency's collection action doesn't undo progress with the other.
Resolution, then planning. Getting a balance resolved is half the job. Staying resolved, through the right withholding, estimated payments, and a forward-looking tax plan, is the other half.
