IRS representation doesn't depend on where you live

IRS collection is centralized. Most individual cases are handled by the Automated Collection System by phone and mail, and larger cases by Revenue Officers who work through documents and deadlines. None of that requires your representative to be down the street. What it requires is someone authorized to speak for you, who knows the process and responds fast.

Enrolled Agents are licensed by the IRS and have unlimited rights to represent taxpayers in every state. Once you sign a power of attorney (Form 2848), we can pull your IRS records, talk to the collection unit on your account, and negotiate for you, whether you're in California, New York, Florida, or anywhere else. You don't have to come to an office, and in most cases you won't have to speak to the IRS at all.

What IRS tax relief actually includes

"Tax relief" gets used loosely in advertising. Here's what the real options are, and who they fit:

  • Installment agreements. Monthly payment plans. The most common resolution. Balances up to $50,000 can usually be set up without a detailed financial statement.
  • Offers in compromise. Settling for less than the full balance, when your income and assets show you can't pay it before the collection period ends. Many people don't qualify, and we tell you before you apply.
  • Currently not collectible status. A pause on collection when paying would leave you unable to cover basic living expenses.
  • Penalty abatement. Removing penalties through first-time abatement or reasonable cause, which also removes the interest on those penalties.
  • Levy and garnishment release. Stopping a wage levy or bank levy by putting a resolution in place or showing hardship.
  • Lien relief. Release, withdrawal, discharge, or subordination of a federal tax lien.
  • Back returns. Filing missing years and replacing IRS-prepared substitute returns, which usually overstate what you owe.
  • Payroll tax resolution. For businesses, including defense against the trust fund recovery penalty.

What most people end up with: an affordable payment plan, penalties reduced where possible, and levies released. That's not the "pennies on the dollar" story in the ads, but it's the right outcome for most taxpayers, and it's one that holds.

How working with us remotely goes

  1. Free consultation. A confidential call about what you owe, what notices you have, and what's urgent.
  2. Flat-fee engagement. If we're a fit, we quote a flat fee upfront and you sign a power of attorney electronically.
  3. Investigation. We pull your IRS account and wage and income transcripts for every relevant year. That shows balances, missing returns, collection deadlines, and any levies or liens.
  4. Documents by secure upload. If we need pay stubs, bank statements, or records for back returns, you upload them from your phone or computer.
  5. Resolution. We file what's missing, prepare your financial statement, and negotiate with the IRS. We get the terms in writing.
  6. Staying resolved. We help you set withholding or estimated payments so a new balance doesn't knock the agreement into default.

You'll hear from us at each step, and you'll always know who's handling your case.

Federal and state, together

More than 40 states tax wage income, and nearly every state collects sales and payroll taxes from businesses. People who owe the IRS often owe their state too, and the two agencies don't coordinate. A payment plan with the IRS can fall apart if your state levies the same bank account. State rules are also different, and sometimes harsher. California has a 20-year collection period, and New York can suspend a driver's license over $10,000 of past-due tax.

We work both sides at once. See state tax debt help and our pages on California, New York, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, and Texas.

How to choose a tax relief firm

National tax relief is crowded with companies that advertise heavily. Some are excellent. Others are sales operations that quote a fee before anyone looks at your IRS records, file offers that were never likely to be accepted, and hand your case to someone you never speak to. A few have faced regulatory action. Before you hire anyone, including us, ask:

  • Who will represent me, and what's their credential? Only Enrolled Agents, CPAs, and attorneys have unlimited rights to represent you before the IRS.
  • Will you review my IRS transcripts before recommending anything?
  • Is the fee flat, and what does it cover?
  • What happens if I don't qualify for what you're recommending?

Our answers: you'll work with Bobby Powell, EA. We review your IRS account first. Our fees are flat and quoted upfront. And we'll tell you plainly when the right answer is a payment plan rather than a settlement.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Enrolled Agents are licensed federally and can represent taxpayers before the IRS in all 50 states. Our work happens by phone, video, and secure document upload. For state tax debt, we confirm what your state allows and which programs it offers.

We charge flat fees, quoted upfront after a free consultation, based on the work your case needs. A simple payment plan costs far less than a case with several unfiled years, a Revenue Officer, and a business payroll balance.

Levy releases can sometimes happen within days of our first contact with the IRS. Payment plans often take a few weeks. Offers in compromise and cases with unfiled returns can take many months. We give you a realistic timeline after reviewing your transcripts.

Sometimes. An offer in compromise works when your income and assets show you can't pay the full balance before the collection period ends. Many people don't qualify, and a payment plan is often the better fit. We run the IRS's calculation before you apply.

No. Once your power of attorney is on file, we handle calls and correspondence with the IRS for you and keep you informed.
